with the president, president obama's meeting with business leaders repairing a troubled relationship known more for conflict than partnership. when the private sector tycoons gather he'll feet as much as pressure to make it right. making aminutes with the president isn't good publicity, it might be a necessity for the bottom line. >> what obama can get and needs from the business community. it's easy to use him as a punching bag, they foolishly lined up behind the wrong guy. they can be a valuable ally in the fiscal cliff push because they're an important component of the republican party. if business leaders come out and recognizing, we've been through the experience of the debt crisis in 2011, business leaders who care about this, have a lot of money on the line, recognize house republicans are willing to go nuts and wreck the economy if you enlist them, you've put additional pressure on republicans to come to the table and agree to a deal that's more along the lines of what democrats and president obama would like to happen. i think there's -- there's something in it for president obama. >>

the busy holiday shopping season. here is a little more of what president obama had to say today. take a listen. >> if congress does nothing, every family in america will see their income taxes automatically go up on january 1st. every family. everybody here, you'll see your taxes go up on january 1st. i mean, i'm assuming that doesn't sound too good to you. that's sort of like the lump of coal you get for christmas. that's a scrooge christmas. >> reporter: timothy geithner put forth the president's sort of starting bid while he was on the hill on thursday. it includes $1.6 trillion in new taxes, $400 billion in cuts to medicare and other entitlements which will take place at a later date, and also about $50 billion in new stimulus spending. republicans are essentially calling it a nonstarter today. majority leader eric cantor said that it's not a serious proposal. as you heard, house speaker john boehner essentially said that this isn't something that we can work with. their main sticking point are the taxes number one, it's about twice what they would be willing to talk about, and al

from the irs heading your way all thanks to obama care. here i-94 to break them down for us is diane macedo from the fox business network. >> that's right. the irs is releasing the rules on how to implement the new taxes that will take effect in 2013 to help pay for the affordable care act. one of the main runs is 3.8 percent sir tax on the investment income. the first tax ever to be applied to capital gains and dividend income. it is a broad range of investment securities and those making thmore than 200,000 a ye and married couples making more than 250,000. they are set to pay a .9 percent healthcare tax on their wages. together the two taxes are supposed to raise 318 billion over ten years. over those years more and more people will be taking them because the income level triggered the taxes doesn't rise with inflation. any one planning to sell a house make more than 500,000 and those gains will also be taxed. they will release a new form for taxpayers to fill out. 1230 returns related to all of the new taxes. all of the rules make it harder for individuals to comply with the regu
